Studoval fyziku v Leningrad\u011b a brzy se za\u0159adil mezi talentovan\u00e9 mlad\u00e9 teoretiky sv\u00e9 generace. Ve 20. letech spolupracoval s p\u0159edn\u00edmi fyziky evropsk\u00e9 v\u011bdy, mimo jin\u00e9 s Niels Bohr v Kodani. Georg Gamow zem\u0159el 19.8. 1968 v USA.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>V roce 1933 b\u011bhem slu\u017eebn\u00ed cesty do zahrani\u010d\u00ed odm\u00edtl n\u00e1vrat do SSSR a z\u016fstal na Z\u00e1pad\u011b. V t\u00e9to dob\u011b toti\u017e prob\u00edhaly prvn\u00ed vlny repres\u00ed. Gamow uv\u00e1d\u00ed, \u017ee mnoz\u00ed kolegov\u00e9 zmizeli z akademick\u00e9ho prost\u0159ed\u00ed bez vysv\u011btlen\u00ed. Pozd\u011bj\u0161\u00ed \u201evelk\u00fd teror\u201c (1936\u20131938) jeho obavy pln\u011b potvrdil. Jeho rozhodnut\u00ed tedy bylo motivov\u00e1no p\u0159edev\u0161\u00edm obavou z politick\u00e9 represe a nemo\u017enosti svobodn\u011b v\u011bdecky pracovat. Kvantov\u00e1 teorie alfa rozpadu<\/h3>\n<p>Gamow aplikoval kvantovou mechaniku na vysv\u011btlen\u00ed alfa rozpadu atomov\u00fdch jader. Uk\u00e1zal, \u017ee \u010d\u00e1stice mohou d\u00edky kvantov\u00e9mu tunelov\u00e1n\u00ed pronikat potenci\u00e1lovou bari\u00e9rou, i kdy\u017e k tomu podle klasick\u00e9 fyziky nemaj\u00ed dostatek energie. Tento v\u00fdsledek byl jedn\u00edm z prvn\u00edch triumf\u016f nov\u00e9 kvantov\u00e9 mechaniky.<\/p>\n<h3>2. Teorie velk\u00e9ho t\u0159esku<\/h3>\n<p>Spolu s kolegy rozvinul model ran\u00e9ho vesm\u00edru zalo\u017een\u00fd na my\u0161lence, \u017ee vesm\u00edr vznikl z extr\u00e9mn\u011b hork\u00e9ho a hust\u00e9ho stavu \u2014 dnes zn\u00e1m\u00e9ho jako Big Bang. Gamow p\u0159edpov\u011bd\u011bl existenci reliktn\u00edho mikrovlnn\u00e9ho z\u00e1\u0159en\u00ed, kter\u00e9 bylo experiment\u00e1ln\u011b potvrzeno v roce 1965 (ji\u017e po jeho smrti).<\/p>\n<h3>3. Genetick\u00fd k\u00f3d<\/h3>\n<p>V 50. letech se za\u010dal zaj\u00edmat o biologii. Pat\u0159il mezi prvn\u00ed v\u011bdce, kte\u0159\u00ed navrhli, \u017ee genetick\u00e1 informace je k\u00f3dov\u00e1na kombinacemi t\u0159\u00ed nukleotid\u016f (tripletov\u00fd k\u00f3d). T\u00edm p\u0159isp\u011bl k rozvoji molekul\u00e1rn\u00ed genetiky.<\/p>\n<h2>Populariz\u00e1tor v\u011bdy<\/h2>\n<p>Gamow byl mimo\u0159\u00e1dn\u011b talentovan\u00fd populariz\u00e1tor. Jeho kniha &#8222;One Two Three&#8230; Infinity&#8220; se stala klasikou v\u011bdeck\u00e9 literatury pro \u0161irokou ve\u0159ejnost. Dok\u00e1zal kombinovat matematickou p\u0159esnost s lehkost\u00ed a humorem.<\/p>\n<h3>Pan Tomkins<\/h3>\n<p>George Gamow se v\u00fdrazn\u011b zapsal do d\u011bjin popularizace v\u011bdy s\u00e9ri\u00ed knih o fiktivn\u00ed postav\u011b pana Tompkinse. Prvn\u00ed z nich, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.databazeknih.cz\/knihy\/pan-tompkins-v-risi-divu-67434\">Pan Tomkins v \u0159\u00ed\u0161i div\u016f<\/a>, vy\u0161la roku 1940 a hravou formou p\u0159edstavila principy relativity a kvantov\u00e9 mechaniky. Hlavn\u00ed hrdina v n\u00ed pro\u017e\u00edv\u00e1 sny, v nich\u017e se fyzik\u00e1ln\u00ed konstanty m\u011bn\u00ed tak, aby byly efekty speci\u00e1ln\u00ed relativity nebo kvantov\u00fdch jev\u016f pozorovateln\u00e9 v ka\u017edodenn\u00edm \u017eivot\u011b. Na \u00fasp\u011bch nav\u00e1zala kniha <em>Mr. Tompkins Explores the Atom<\/em>, zam\u011b\u0159en\u00e1 na atomovou a jadernou fyziku. Ob\u011b d\u00edla byla pozd\u011bji souborn\u011b vyd\u00e1na pod n\u00e1zvem <em>Mr. Tompkins in Paperback<\/em>. Gamow v t\u011bchto knih\u00e1ch prok\u00e1zal mimo\u0159\u00e1dnou schopnost p\u0159ev\u00e1d\u011bt abstraktn\u00ed matematick\u00e9 koncepty do n\u00e1zorn\u00fdch metafor a p\u0159\u00edb\u011bh\u016f, ani\u017e by rezignoval na fyzik\u00e1ln\u00ed p\u0159esnost.<\/p>\n<h2>Represe v\u011bdc\u016f v Sov\u011btsk\u00e9m svazu<\/h2>\n<p>Po upevn\u011bn\u00ed moci Josifa Stalina do\u0161lo v Sov\u011btsk\u00e9m svazu k systematick\u00e9mu pod\u0159izov\u00e1n\u00ed v\u011bdy marxisticko-leninsk\u00e9 ideologii. V\u011bdeck\u00e9 teorie byly hodnoceny nejen podle empirick\u00e9 validity, ale tak\u00e9 podle \u201eideologick\u00e9 spr\u00e1vnosti\u201c. Tento proces zas\u00e1hl p\u0159edev\u0161\u00edm genetiku, biologii, fyziku i spole\u010densk\u00e9 v\u011bdy.<\/p>\n<p>Gamow pat\u0159il mezi nejv\u00fdznamn\u011bj\u0161\u00ed mlad\u00e9 fyziky sv\u00e9 generace. Spolupracoval se z\u00e1padoevropsk\u00fdmi v\u011bdci a z\u00edskal povolen\u00ed vycestovat na konference (nap\u0159. do N\u011bmecka a do Kodan\u011b, kde pracoval s Nielsem Bohrem). Pr\u00e1v\u011b tato mezin\u00e1rodn\u00ed orientace jej postupn\u011b dostala do podez\u0159en\u00ed re\u017eimu.<\/p>\n<p>Gamow vzpom\u00edn\u00e1, \u017ee koncem 20. a za\u010d\u00e1tkem 30. let za\u010dalo b\u00fdt z\u0159ejm\u00e9, \u017ee sov\u011btsk\u00e1 v\u011bda bude st\u00e1le v\u00edce izolov\u00e1na od Z\u00e1padu. Cestovn\u00ed povolen\u00ed byla v\u00fdjime\u010dn\u00e1 a ka\u017ed\u00fd n\u00e1vrat byl nejist\u00fd. V\u011bdci si byli v\u011bdomi, \u017ee hranice se mohou kdykoli \u201ezav\u0159\u00edt natrvalo\u201c.<\/p>\n<p>Vedle Gamowa ode\u0161li nebo byli pozd\u011bji perzekvov\u00e1ni i dal\u0161\u00ed v\u011bdci. N\u011bkte\u0159\u00ed byli popraveni b\u011bhem velk\u00e9ho teroru, jin\u00ed skon\u010dili v gulagu.<\/p>\n<h3>Velk\u00fd teror (1936\u20131938)<\/h3>\n<p>Obdob\u00ed tzv. velk\u00e9ho teroru p\u0159edstavovalo vrchol stalinsk\u00fdch repres\u00ed, systematicky \u0159\u00edzen\u00fdch bezpe\u010dnostn\u00edm apar\u00e1tem pod veden\u00edm NKVD. V letech 1936\u20131938 prob\u011bhly masov\u00e9 \u010distky zam\u011b\u0159en\u00e9 na stranick\u00e9 elity, arm\u00e1du, inteligenci i b\u011b\u017en\u00e9 ob\u010dany. Kl\u00ed\u010dov\u00fdm n\u00e1strojem se stal \u010dl\u00e1nek 58 trestn\u00edho z\u00e1kon\u00edku RSFSR, umo\u017e\u0148uj\u00edc\u00ed st\u00edh\u00e1n\u00ed za \u201ekontrarevolu\u010dn\u00ed \u010dinnost\u201c, p\u0159i\u010dem\u017e obvin\u011bn\u00ed byla \u010dasto vykonstruovan\u00e1. V\u011bdeck\u00e1 obec nebyla u\u0161et\u0159ena: \u0159ada badatel\u016f byla zat\u010dena, popravena nebo odesl\u00e1na do gulag\u016f. Atmosf\u00e9ra permanentn\u00edho strachu vedla k autocenzu\u0159e, p\u0159eru\u0161en\u00ed v\u00fdzkumn\u00fdch projekt\u016f a rozpadu mezin\u00e1rodn\u00edch kontakt\u016f. V oblasti fyziky sice represivn\u00ed z\u00e1sahy nebyly tak systematick\u00e9 jako nap\u0159\u00edklad v biologii, nicm\u00e9n\u011b i zde doch\u00e1zelo k zat\u00fdk\u00e1n\u00ed a \u201eprov\u011b\u0159ov\u00e1n\u00ed\u201c loajality.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Narodil se 4. b\u0159ezna 1904 v Od\u011bse (tehdy Rusk\u00e9 imp\u00e9rium).
